Sri Uthpalambal sametha Singandeeswarar temple -Tiruvur

Location

The temple is located in Tiruvur village, thiruvallur district. It is on the poonamallee-tiruvallur national highway near aranvoyal kuppam. It is about 40 Kms from chennai.



Sanctum 

The sanctum faces east and is blessed with Sringandeeswarar with a square avadui. It is said that the Rishi RishiyaSingeeswar was worshiping lord, in the same place and the jeeva samathi of rishi is in the temple. Goddess Uthpalambal with all her beauty faces south.

Inner Praharam

Inner praharam of the temple quite wide with Athimuga vinayagar sannidhi, Valli devanai sametha Vallar kumarn sannithi, Sandeeswarar sannithi.and vallalar sannithi.

Architecture

The temple follows the classical Gaja Brishta architecture where the sanctum is semi-circular in shape at the back. This type of architecture is also called as  Thoonganai Maadam in Tamil as this resembles the back of a sleeping elephant. The temple has a south entrance and an  North entrance. This temple was built during 1251 AD.  The temple was converted to a stone temple by Malayan Tiruvannamalai udayan during the  First Jatavarma Sundara pandian period. Later the temple was maintained by Thimmia Devar from chalukya dynasity during 1502 AD. For more details refer tiruvurilvazhumsivam.blogspot.com. The temple south  gopuram is unique and is build of some combinations of sand. See the enclosed photo.

Sthala Viruksham & Pond

The sthala viruksham is vilvam. A variety of vilva trees are present within the temple premises.

Importance

The temple follows a richual of carrying a Kalasam which is unique in this temple. It is said that the wishes get fullfilled on carrying  the kalasam during the Pradosham time.
